In an effort to increase the pool of African Americans research scientists in biomedical and related sciences, the United Negro College Fund and The Merck Company Foundation offer about 15 awards each year to applicants with demonstrated interest and proficiency in pursuing a career in scientific research. Awards provide a fellowship stipend of up to $35,000 and a department grant of $10,000.
Qualifications: African-American juniors majoring in the life or physical sciences are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Although the University does not nominate students for these awards, applications must be processed through the University. Please allow time for processing.
